சூரியப் படுக்கைகள் (Tanning Beds) ஆசனிக் போன்று ஆபத்தானவை.

சூரியப்படுக்கைகள் (sun beds அல்லது Tanning Beds) என்று அழைக்கப்படும் புறஊதாக் கதிர்ப்புக்கள் (ultraviolet) கொண்டு ஆக்கப்பட்டுள்ள படுக்கைகள் உடல் நலத்துக்கு தீங்கானவை என்றும் அவை ஆசனிக் மற்றும் நச்சு வாயுக்களுக்கு (Mustard Gas) இணையாக மனிதரை சிறுகச் சிறுகக் கொல்லும் இயல்புடையன என்றும் குறிப்பாக தோல் மற்றும் கண் புற்றுநோய்களின் பெருக்கத்துக்கு காரணமாக இருக்கின்றன என்றும் சமீபத்திய பல ஆண்டுகளில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட ஆய்வுகளில் இருந்து தெரிய வந்துள்ளது.

முன்னர் புறஊதாக் கதிர்ப்புகளில் ஒருவகை மட்டுமே புற்றுநோய்க்குக் காரணம் என்று கூறப்பட்டு வந்துள்ள நிலையில் அனைத்து வகை புறஊதா கதிர்ப்புகளும் ஏதோ ஒருவகையில் மரபணு அலகுகளில் மாற்றங்களை உண்டு பண்ணி புற்றுநோயை உருவாக்கவல்லனவாக இருக்கின்றமை தற்போது கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தங்கள் மேனியை இளமையோடு மிளிர வைக்க என்று இளம்பராயத்தினரில் 30 வயதிற்கு உட்பட்ட பலர் இந்த சூரியப்படுக்கைகளைப் பாவிக்கத் தொடங்கிய பின் அவர்கள் மத்தியில் தோற் புற்றுநோயின் தாக்கம் அதிகரித்திருப்பதும் அவதானிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நடத்தப்பட்ட 20 ஆய்வுகளில் இருந்து இந்த சூரியப் படுக்கைகளைப் பாவித்த இளம் வயதினரிடையே 75% புற்றுநோய் தாக்க அதிகரிப்பு இனங்காணப்பட்டுள்ளமை இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கதாகும்.

சூரியப் படுக்கைகளை அறிமுகப்படுத்திய விஞ்ஞானமே இப்போது அதன் ஆபத்துக்கள் பற்றியும் எச்சரிக்கின்றது என்பது ஒரு வகையில் ஆச்சரியத்தையும் இன்னொரு வகையில் விஞ்ஞானிகளின் அறிவிப்புக்கள் குறித்த கேள்விக் குறியையும் எழுப்பி நிற்கிறது.

July 29, 2009 -- International cancer experts have moved tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation into the top cancer risk category, deeming them as deadly as arsenic and mustard gas.

For years, scientists have described tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation as "probable carcinogens." A new analysis of about 20 studies concludes the risk of skin cancer jumps by 75 percent when people start using tanning beds before age 30.

Experts also found that all types of ultraviolet radiation caused worrying mutations in mice, proof the radiation is carcinogenic. Previously, only one type of ultraviolet radiation was thought to be lethal.

The new classification means tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation are definite causes of cancer, alongside tobacco, the hepatitis B virus and chimney sweeping, among others.

The research was published online in the medical journal Lancet Oncology on Wednesday, by experts at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, the cancer arm of the World Health Organization.
